Sheffield Wednesday winger called-up for international duty - could lead to Owls fixture postponement
Latest Owls news...
Kieran Morrison has been named in Northern Ireland’s senior squad for their upcoming Nations League games.
The 19-year-old winger, who is on a season-long loan from Liverpool, has made 13 appearances in total since joining in the summer, although his minutes have been limited in recent weeks. He has only started one of the last five matches - the defeat to Doncaster Rovers - which was Henrik Pedersen’s last match in charge.
Despite his lack of game-time Morrison has got the nod again for his country for games against Ukraine on November 14 and Hungary three days later. The Owls are due to play Plymouth Argyle on November 14 but the fixture could be postponed if either Wednesday or Argyle have three or more international call-ups.
That is what happened in the last international break, with Wednesday having to rearrange games against Cambridge United and Stevenage, after call-ups for Yan Valery (Switzerland) and Ali Al-Hamadi (Iraq). Sean Fusire (Zimbabwe), Harry Gray (England under-19s) and Will Grainger (Wales under-19s) were also called-up last time.
Should the Plymouth clash be postponed, it means new manager Dave Challinor’s first league match in charge of Wednesday would be away at Barnsley on November 20. Cup ties against Oldham Athletic and Accrington Stanley are sandwiched in-between.
Morrison has been called-up alongside former Owls Pierce Charles and Shea Charles. Northern Ireland are currently third in Group A, six points behind leaders Germany and three adrift of second-placed Slovakia.
