Ask many a northerner and they will happily talk about how much they love where they live. Whether it is the low cost of living, the easy access to the countryside, or the wealth of culture, they will never be short of reasons why they live where they do. Here are some of the major reasons to live in the north.
9. Beer and brewing
The north of England is at the centre of the renaissance in brewing in the UK. In recent years a huge number of micro-breweries have been founded all over the north east, north west and Yorkshire. Photo: JPI
10. The coast
Yorkshire, the north east, Cumbria and parts of Lancashire are known for their coasts. There are award-winning beaches in the east, and world-famous coastal towns like Whitby, Bamburgh and Blackpool to enjoy. Photo: JPI
11. Universities
Some of the best universities in the UK are in the north. Prestigious institutions are in every major city, including Russle Group universities like Durham, York, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield and Newcastle. Photo: JPI
