It says a lot that a third of the squad are still with the Owls but here’s what happened to the team that came close to defying the odds and making it to the Promised Land and the riches of the top flight.
13. Atdhe Nuhiu
Something of a cult figure at Hillsborough and one of Wednesday's longest serving player,s Nuhiu also came off the bench on the day. He's made 269 appearances, scoring 47 goals in his seven years at the club. (Photo by Mike Hewitt/Getty Images) Photo: Mike Hewitt
14. Lucas Joao
Wednesday's final sub on the day, despite fleeting moments of brilliance, Joao's Owls career never really reached the heights that is perhaps should have done and he was sold to Reading in August last year. Pic: Steve Ellis Photo: Steve Ellis
15. Alex Lopez
Often considered 'the one that got away' by Wednesday fans, Lopez had played a key role in getting Wednesday into the play-off positions but he was never kept on beyond his loan deal. He returned to Celta Vigo and was subsequently loaned to Valladolid. Signed permanently for Sporting Gijon after that and had a spell in Australia with Brisbane Roar before returning to Spain with third tier Racing Ferrol, his hometown club. 16. Marco Matias
Another who didn't get any action at Wembley, Matias only left the cub in the summer after an injury-ravaged period with Wednesday, though still managed 72 appearances. Will be remembered mostly for a cracker against Leeds that won Goal of the Year and a lovely Portuguese deli he opened in town.
