It says a lot that a third of the squad are still with the Owls but here’s what happened to the team that came close to defying the odds and making it to the Promised Land and the riches of the top flight.
5. Daniel Pudil
Pudil also arrived initially on loan from Watford before making the move permanent. The Czech international stayed at the club until last summer before returning home, having made over 100 appearances for Wednesday, and is now at FK Mladá Boleslav (Photo by Mike Hewitt/Getty Images) Photo: Mike Hewitt
6. Ross Wallace
Cheeky Scot Wallace scored the goals that helped take Wednesday into the final, having also bagged in the League Cup win over Arsenal that season. Left the club in 2018 - 124 apps, 13 goals - before eventually joining Fleetwood Town where he spent a season before going home to sign for St Mirren. 7. Kieran Lee
Another who still plies his trade at Hillsbrough, though injury has stunted his time at Wednesday over the past few years. Has played over 200 times for the Owls and his touch remains 'golden'. Photo by Alex Livesey/Getty Images Photo: Alex Livesey
8. Sam Hutchinson
Hutchinson, who got the nod on the day ahead of Alex Lopez despite having just recovered from a knock, had already retired from the game at an early age through injury but resurrected his career at Wednesday, where he remains. Like Westwood, though still a fans favourite because of his combative style, he is currently out of the picture. Pic: Tony Johnson Photo: Tony Johnson
