Twenty years ago, goals from Laurent D’Jaffo and Carl Asaba saw Sheffield United emerge victorious in the 100th league derby against their city rivals Wednesday.
But what happened to the heroes of Hillsborough after that memorable April Fool’s Day in 2001?
Some stayed in football for a while, some drifted away completely and began other careers outside of the game.
For the sake of a little bit of nostalgia during the off-season, let’s have a look in a little bit more detail…

9. Peter Ndlovu
The pacey Ndlovu enjoyed a fruitful time at United, where he was affectionately known as 'Nuddy'. He was part of the Blades squad led by Neil Warnock which progressed to the semi-finals of the FA and League cups in 2002/03 as well as the Championship play-off final later that season. 10. Laurent D'Jaffo
A French-born striker who later represented Benin at international level, D'Jaffo scored in a Sheffield derby win at Hillsborough and played for Aberdeen and Mansfield after leaving United. He later became a scout and recommended a young Didier Drogba to Neil Warnock. His club wanted £100,000, the move didn't happen and Drogba later moved to Chelsea for £24m Photo: DEAN ATKINS

11. Carl Asaba
The goalscoring hero of Hillsborough, Asaba represented Stoke and Millwall after leaving Bramall Lane and after retiring, moved into selling supercars Photo: M.Waistell

12. Subs: Gus Uhlenbeek
The defender was born in Suriname but grew up in Amsterdam and spent more than a decade in English football, playing 50 games across two seasons at Bramall Lane as well as enjoying spells at clubs including Ipswich, Fulham and Bradford.
