Twenty years ago, goals from Laurent D’Jaffo and Carl Asaba saw Sheffield United emerge victorious in the 100th league derby against their city rivals Wednesday.
But what happened to the heroes of Hillsborough after that memorable April Fool’s Day in 2001?
Some stayed in football for a while, some drifted away completely and began other careers outside of the game.
For the sake of a little bit of nostalgia during the off-season, let’s have a look in a little bit more detail…

5. Robert Ullathorne
Left-back Ullathorne played over 40 times for United before spells at Northampton and Notts County after leaving Bramall Lane. After hanging up his boots, he became an agent before moving into supplying cars to VIPs Photo: Ross Kinnaird

6. Paul Devlin
The Brummie winger was a fans' favourite during his time at Bramall Lane, which ended when he returned to Birmingham in 2002. He still keeps a keen eye out for United's results and later became a health and well-being coach, as well as running his own coaching academy Photo: Michael Steele/ALLSPORT

7. Bobby Ford
The midfielder played over 150 times for United after arriving from Oxford, and went on to represent Oxford again before hanging up his boots following a spell with Bath City. Photo: DEAN ATKINS

8. Darren Bullock
Heckled as a pub player by Carlton Palmer in this game, Bullock got the last laugh by helping United to derby victory on his debut after signing on loan from Bury. He returned to window-cleaning after hanging up his boots and admitting he fell out of love with football Photo: Steve Ellis
