It’s a month that’s seen some interesting business at Sheffield United in the last dozen or so years – good and bad. So we ranked 11 January signings as Hits and Misses – do you agree? It’s not an exhaustive list so let us know your most memorable January signings in the comments below or on Twitter.
9. Che Adams - HIT
Plucked from non-league football with Ilkeston, Adams gave United some good moments - his brace against Spurs in the League Cup sticks in the memory - and also earned them a few quid when he made a £2m move to Birmingham, and then again when he was sold to Southampton Photo: Laurence Griffiths
10. Craig Beattie - MISS
In January 2009, the Blades were in the play-off picture with striker James Beattie having scored 12 goals in half a season. Unfortunately they flogged him to Stoke and signed his namesake Craig Beattie instead. He scored one goal in 16 games and United couldn't score the goals to get them automatic promotion, eventually losing in the play-off final to Burnley Photo: Dean Atkins
11. James Hanson - HIT
A Marmite signing but one that staff at Bramall Lane feel was instrumental to getting them over the line in League One. Was loved by his teammates and gave United a different dimension as they approached the second half of the title-winning season, stopping teams simply defending deep to counteract them. £150,000 well spent to secure Championship football again Photo: The Star
