Speedway's much anticipated return to Sheffield is postponed
The long-awaited retrn of Speedway to Sheffield after more than 500 days with no racing has been postponed at the last minute.
Weather conditions have meant that the return of races to Sheffield’s Owlerton Stadium cannot take place as scheduled today (May 20).
Instead, spectators will have to wait a little longer until the resheduled event on July 8.
A spokesperson for Sheffield Speedway said: ““After over 500 days with no racing the wait goes on. I cannot believe it. We’re all absolutely gutted about it.”
All tickets for tonight’s cancelled event will be accepted at the re-staging on July 8.
Fans have posted on social media about their disappointment at the news.
One wrote: “Gutted so looking forward to the meeting but the safety of the riders come first.”
Another said: “Unfortunate, but well done for calling it off early and letting fans know.”
It is forecast to rain heavily all evening in Sheffield tonight.
