Sheffield Steelers come up short in defeat at Coventry Blaze
Sheffield Steelers lost out away to Coventry Blaze in the Challenge Cup
Sheffield Steelers suffered their first Challenge Cup defeat of the season on Sunday evening as Coventry Blaze held on for a 4-2 victory at the Skydome.

Aaron Fox’s side found themselves four goals down early in the second period before Mitchell Balmas and Robert Dowd gave the visitors hope, but the comeback ultimately proved beyond them.
Coventry made the perfect start when Ryan Richardson opened the scoring inside the opening two minutes.

Sheffield created chances of their own and were handed an early power play, but the Blaze penalty kill stood firm.
Coventry then doubled their advantage late in the opening period when Brett Perlini converted at the back door on the power play to make it 2-0.
The home side carried that momentum into the second period.
Jaxson Ezman added a third shortly after the restart before Artem Buzoverya punished a turnover at the blue line, racing clear to beat Lucas Brine and stretch the Blaze lead to 4-0.
Sheffield needed a response and found one through Balmas.
The forward created space before firing past Coventry goaltender Sisu Heikkeri to reduce the deficit and give the Steelers something to build on.
The visitors improved as the game went on and began to spend more time in the offensive zone.
Ivan Björkly-Nordström briefly required medical attention during the second period but was able to return for the third.
Sheffield produced their strongest spell in the final 20 minutes, with Mikko Juusola and Leevi Teissala both testing Heikkeri.
Captain Dowd then gave the travelling support further encouragement when he fired into the top corner to make it 4-2.
The Steelers continued to push for another goal, but Coventry defended well in the closing stages and saw out the game to secure the points.
Dowd was named Sheffield’s man of the match after contributing a goal and an assist.
The defeat brought an end to the Steelers’ unbeaten start in the Challenge Cup, although their second-half response offered some encouragement after a difficult opening half of the game.
