‘Sport has the power to bring people together’ - £5,000 donation to continue George Baldock legacy

“Thanks to contributions like this, we can continue supporting the next generation and build a lasting legacy in George’s name.”

An accountancy outsourcing firm has donated more than £5,000 to the George Baldock Foundation in a bid to help continue the legacy of the popular former Sheffield United defender.

Baldock, who played more than 200 matches for the Blades between 2017 and 2024 while winning two promotions in the process, was found dead in the pool of his house in Glyfada, Athens, on October 9, 2024, just months after leaving Sheffield United to start a new chapter with Panathinkos.

The 12-time Greek international was aged just 31 at the time of his death, and the news rocked the community, with many paying tribute to the defender and sending their condolences to his family and friends.

His memory will never be forgotten at Sheffield United with supporters still singing about him to this day in home matches, while his family have also made sure his legacy continues by setting up the George Baldock Foundation to support disadvantaged children through sport while funding community holiday football camps that provide food, physical activity, and a safe environment for kids.

Outsourcing specialists Advancetrack recently raised a combined total of £5,215 from its flagship gbX Conference with all proceeds going to the Foundation.

Vipul Sheth, Managing Director of Advancetrack, said: “I’ve always been a passionate football fan, so it has been incredibly rewarding to give back in an area that means so much to me. Not everyone has the same access to sport, but charities like the George Baldock Foundation really help to level the playing field.

“Sport has the power to bring people together and create new opportunities, and we’re proud that the funds raised through our gbX Conference will help give more young people the opportunity to enjoy those benefits. We’re also incredibly grateful to our speakers, sponsors and delegates, whose support made this donation possible.

“Advancetrack’s donation will help fund football camps, providing children with a safe environment where they can take part in sport, make friends and build confidence.”

Sam Baldock, George’s older brother, who also played professionally for the likes of Bristol City and Brighton, added: “We are hugely thankful to Advancetrack for this generous donation and for choosing to support our mission.

“George was passionate about football and the opportunities it can create for young people, and thanks to contributions like this, we can continue supporting the next generation and build a lasting legacy in George’s name.”
