Why Garry Monk thinks the international break is ‘lucky’ for Sheffield Wednesday

Wednesday had Dominic Iorfa (hamstring), Izzy Brown (knee) and Alex Hunt (illness) missing for the 1-1 draw against Queens Park Rangers, while Osaze Urhoghide (knee) and Chey Dunkley (leg) are in the process of getting back to full fitness.
On top of that, Liam Shaw (ankle), Liam Palmer (back) and Tom Lees (groin) all had to go off at different stages of the QPR game, leaving Monk short of a bit of man power as he prepares to face Birmingham City on October 17th.

Speaking after the draw at Hillsborough over the weekend, Monk explained, “Dom just felt a tightness in his hamstring, it’s not too serious… It’s probably lucky we are coming into the international break to get that recovery in. We hope to have him back coming out of the international break.
“Izzy had a knock just around the knee, so again it was unfortunate before the game but we should have him back after the international break too.
He went on to say, “Alex Hunt was illness. And then during the game, I felt really sorry for Liam Shaw. It was the first challenge he made and he twisted his ankle.

“But considering all that, I thought we were excellent to a man… We’ll have to assess the ones from the QPR game, but the injuries leading up to that game, we should have a good few of those bodies back after the break.”
Wednesday’s players have been given a bit of time off before returning to Middlewood Road later this week, and their manager will be hoping that a few of the aforementioned players can get themselves back in contention over the next week or so.
