Odimayo is currently playing for John Sheridan’s Swindon Town, and has 33 appearances in all competitions for the side so far, despite only turning 21 a few months ago.

The youngster is predominantly a centre back, but has also been used out on the right during his career so far, and has taken the step up into senior football in recent years after coming up through the ranks at Reading.

His contract with Swindon will come to an end come July after his first season with the Robins, however it’s thought that they do have an option to extend by a further year should they so wish.

According to recent reports, Wednesday are one of a handful of Championship clubs who are keeping an eye on the defender, with Derby County and Stoke City also being linked.

For his manager, though, he says that he’s surprised to hear of interest from his former club, insisting that Odimayo still has plenty to learn.

Speaking to the media this week, Sheridan said, “I’m not aware of any interest – I haven’t seen that anywhere. I can see why teams are interested, but he’s been in and out of the team here. He’s performed well at times and then he hasn’t performed well.

“He’s a young lad who’s learning the game, and he’s got a lot to learn still. He needs to push himself a lot more to firstly get a regular starting place and make it so that a manager has no doubt in his mind that he’s going to turn up.

“He needs to be consistently performing well if it’s Championship clubs looking at him and a move does work out, but first and foremost, he needs to concentrate on what he’s doing at Swindon and try to get a regular starting spot in the team.”

Wednesday are currently under a transfer embargo, like several other teams in the league, however the club are hoping to be out of it by the time the transfer window rolls around.
