The Owls succumbed to a 4-1 defeat to QPR on Saturday, with a second half collapse leaving the first half comeback and 5-0 win over Cardiff City as nothing but a memory.

Wednesday are yet to win a single point from losing positions so far this season, and have an absolute mountain to climb if they’re going to stand any chance of surviving the drop come the end of the season.

Wednesday got back into it in the first half as Josh Windass made it 1-1 following Lyndon Dykes’ opener, but then Stefan Johansen made it 2-1, then Dykes scored again, and then it was Chris Willock who delivered the final nail in the coffin in stoppage time.

Despite the result though Warburton, who is likely to see his side finish comfortably mid-table this time out, has backed Moore and his technical team to pull it off – saying that he has ‘a lot of respect’ for the club.

Speaking to The Star, Warburton said at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium You look at the squad… We prepared really well for this game, because we knew the threat Wednesday posed. Of course they’re fighting for their lives.

“Darren has come in and done a great job to galvanise it, but you look at Bannan, Reach, Hutchinson, Windass, Rhodes, and the physicality at the back - they’re a really good team. But this league is so demanding, and if you have a bad run and can’t get out of it, you’ll find yourself in a really difficult position.

“There’s never ever an easy game… This league is relentless. I’ve got a lot of respect for Sheffield Wednesday and I know Darren will galvanise them, so I think they have got enough - I think it’s going to be very, very tight come the last game of the season.

“I’ve seen enough to know they’re a good team.”

Next up for the Owls is a visit from Swansea City on Tuesday night as they go into their final six games of what has been a real season to forget.
