The Rams man adds firepower to the Owls’ attack, something Wednesday boss Garry Monk has maintained the club have needed throughout this transfer window.

He has so far managed to add Josh Windass, Elias Kachunga and Callum Paterson to his front line, with Jordan Rhodes making up an attacking quartet. Monk has made clear he would like another striker in.

So then.. Who is Jack Marriott?

A 26-year-old attacker who can play as a front man or out wide, Marriott started his career at Ipswich Town.

Fairly diminutive in stature at only five-foot-eight, the Derby County man enjoyed a number of goal-laden loan spells while with the Tractor Boys but made only two league appearances before moving to Luton Town in 2015, belting 14 league goals in his first full season of senior football.

His record of nearly one in three earned him a move to League One Peterborough, where his 33 goals across all competitions in the 2917/18 season had a number of Championship clubs sniffing around him.

He’s since been at Derby, where injuries have curtailed his progress a touch, though he has played in each of their league games this season, scoring in defeat at his old club Luton.

A hard-worker popular with supporters, he has won club awards at Ipswich, Luton and Peterborough.

How long has Garry Monk been tracking him?

Monk has been in for Marriott before and reportedly tried to take him to Birmingham in 2018 when he was fresh off that 33-goal super summer.

The forward signed for Derby for £3m having outbid the Blues, but he’s a name the Owls boss seems to have kept a close eye on since.

Wednesday too were linked with him back then. He has also previously been linked with Sheffield United.

What’s the deal with the deal?

Marriott will come to Hillsborough on a season-long loan and will wear the number nine shirt. Derby, who could recall the player in January if needed, have also taken up the opportunity to extend his contract by a further year. Marriott will be ineligible to play against the Rams under the terms of the loan agreement and EFL regulations.
