The 35-year-old goalkeeper is training with the club’s under-23 side but hasn’t played since November last year having fallen foul of Garry Monk’s transition towards a new squad at Hillsborough.

The Star revealed last week that two Championship clubs had offered to take Westwood on loan in deals that included a healthy contribution to his wages and although the former Republic of Ireland stopper was understood to be receptive to a move, no deal was able to be struck.

It is understood that neither offer included a ‘loan fee’ for Westwood’s services.

Speaking for the first time since news of the rejected deals became public, Owls boss Monk said: “All of those things are in the hands of the club.

“I’m just concentrating on the football and preparing on this game, that’s where all my energy is at.”

Speaking ahead of the Owls’ trip to Birmingham this weekend, Monk confirmed that the presence of veteran keeper Lee Camp is not linked to Westwood’s situation, saying he was only there to maintain fitness after his release from the St Andrews club last season.

Monk also denied he had discussed reported approaches for Dominic Iorfa or Barry Bannan with the club, maintaining that he is yet to have anything put across his desk in this transfer window.

“The club deal with everything else for all the players at the club on that side of things,” he said.

“I’ve not been told anything about any of our players in terms of outgoings, so it is where it is.”
