Jack Marriott will be hoping for a bit of a fresh start at Sheffield Wednesday following a tough few months, and it seems that Neil Thompson will be giving him a chance.

Marriott joined the Owls on loan from Derby County at the start of the season, but missed a large chunk of the season due to injury and returned to his parent club in order to recover.

The forward hasn’t been in any of Thompson’s squads this month as the Owls climbed out of the relegation zone, but the manager admits that he’s been knocking on the door alongside the likes of Elias Kachunga and Jordan Rhodes.

Speaking to the media this week, ‘Thommo’ said, “He got his injury, and it was really tough… But he’s come back, and his attitude has been bang on – he’s looked really sharp.

“He’s like all the other strikers, though. They’re all in competition, it’s a challenge and they’ve got to be together as a group but fighting for places. It’s frustrating for Jack not being in, but when you’re out of the team it’s more about keeping your focus and belief, because you never know when you’re needed.

“Kachunga was on the bench and then came in and did really well, Rhodesy’s not been playing before Christmas but now got a sniff and has gotten a couple of goals. They’ve got to keep that form though.”

Wednesday face Swansea City tomorrow night as they try to make it six wins in a row at Hillsborough.
