Warnock, who is infamous around Hillsborough, will be back at S6 on Wednesday evening as his Middlesbrough side look to guarantee their place in the second-tier next season, while the Owls may also need three points given their precarious situation regarding the ongoing case with the English Football League.

SWFC, as well as Wigan Athletic, could be subject to points deductions that could shake up the relegation places in the Championship, and Warnock admits that it’s far from an ideal situation.

As quoted by Teesside live in today’s press conference, Warnock said, “We’ve always said we need another point… It is a bit chaotic isn’t it, the situation regarding Wigan and possibly Sheffield Wednesday.

“We should know what we’re up against but it doesn’t appear that will happen before the game.

“At the level we’re talking about, it’s wrong it’s not decided already. But it is what it is and we have to make sure it doesn’t matter what happens legally. It’s what happens on the field of play.”

Meanwhile, on last night’s statement from the league, he added, “It just muddied the waters… All I know is we need a point to make sure we don’t have to worry. It’s not just Wigan but the Sheffield Wednesday situation. It’s very difficult for the managers concerned. For me, things like that should be clarified.”
