It will be the Owls first visit to the Bescot Stadium since a Boxing Day 2011 trip that was memorable for all the wrong reasons; injury time goals for Saddlers pair Claude Gnapka and Manny Smith cancelling out Ryan Lowe’s second half opener.
But what became of the players that played that day? Take a look at the run-through below..
9. Chris Lines
Chris Lines, pictured here playing against Wednesday in a pre-season friendly last summer, spent two years in the Owls' midfield, moving to Port Vale in 2013 before finding a home at Bristol Rovers. He played over 150 times before a switch to Northampton where he is looking forward to another crack at League One after the fifth promotion of his career last time out. Photo: Pete Norton
10. Chris O'Grady
It's been something of a nomadic career for Chris O'Grady, another who had his moments in a Wednesday shirt.Wednesday were his tenth club already when he arrived in 2011, scoring nine league goals in 53 appearances. Barnsley made his loan move from S6 permanent in 2013 and he played a role in Brighton's emergence as a Premier League outlier before a controversial loan spell at Sheffield United. He played for Chesterfield, Oldham and Bolton and at 35 is looking for a new club. Photo: Scott Heavey
11. Ryan Lowe
In just one season at Wednesday Lowe collected cult hero status, banging in a number of goals, including the opener in this cruel 2-1 defeat at the Bescot. His hard-working style saw him flourish as a striker at MK Dons, Tranmere, his beloved Bury, Crewe and Bury again before he took on the reigns of manger and to promotion before their financial oblivion. He was promoted with Plymouth last season and in an interview with The Star earlier this year suggested he might fancy the Wednesday job one day. Watch this space. Photo: Chris Brunskill
12. Miguel Llera (Sub, Jones, 56)
A powerful defender who soon developed a habit for offering important goals at the other end, Llera is another player who Wednesdayites have happy memories of. Two years, 10 league goals and over 80 appearances later he moved on to Scunthorpe and now works at academy boss at, you guessed it.. Walsall. Photo: Gareth Copley
