Against the odds, Second Division Wednesday beat a Manchester United team inching to the verge of greatness again in the League Cup final at Wembley, thanks to an iconic goal from John Sheridan.

13. Sub - Lawrie Madden
Came on for Harkes late on in the final. Madden had enjoyed his testimonial at the start of the season and played his last of eight seasons with Wednesday in 1991. Moved to Wolves and played at Darlington and Chesterfield before a career in journalism, PR and in education. Now semi-retired but does some media work. Photo: Sheffield Newspapers
An unused sub at Wembley, Francis replaced Ron at the end of the season and guided the Owls to huge success, including a third place First Division finish and two domestic cup finals. Sacked in 1995 in controversial circumstances, he enjoyed equal success as manager of Birmingham, reaching the League Cup final in 2001, and had a spell in charge of Crystal Palace.
