Reports recently stated that the Owls’ Championship rivals, Watford, had made enquiries about the centre back as they consider bulking up their backline, while it was also stated that there was growing interest from the Premier League.

Monk has spoken before of the importance of Iorfa to his side at Hillsborough, and when questioned about his future today he insisted that he hadn’t been told anything by the club.

He said, “I’ve received nothing from the club on any of our players, so that’s where it stands really.”

Meanwhile, regarding the hamstring injury that kept the 25-year-old out of the 1-1 draw with Queens Park Rangers, Monk suggested that there is a chance he could be back in contention to face Birmingham City this weekend, though reiterated that he would never risk making his injury worse.

He told the media, “What we tend to do is go on our experiences, it’s not always just what a scan says. Scans are good to give you a parameter of what the injury is, but like with Dom’s, what we thought was a serious hamstring injury turned out not to be so.

“Of course the scan will tell you the grade of the tear or whatever that may be, but clinically a lot of these things can be worked out differently and accelerated. So Dom’s probably a lot further ahead of where we thought he’d be, he’s back out on the pitches and he’s running. He’s pretty much up to a sprint, and I’ll give him as long as I can.

“But it’s a ‘needs must’ season. I’m not going to risk any player in terms of anything serious, but we’re going to have to play through certain injuries and niggles to get through it – that’s what we’re going to have to do.”

Iorfa is the reigning Player of the Season at Wednesday, and – when fit – is one of the first names on the teamsheet at present.
