The big Scot, who acts as Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant manager at Goodison Park, told The Star after Everton’s comfortable 3-0 win that the experience of playing against the likes of former Real Madrid star James Rodriguez will stand them in good stead going forward.

“Obviously I was mainly looking at our team but they handled themselves well, didn’t they? A couple of 19 and 20 year old lads in there.
“That all bodes well for Sheffield Wednesday players in the future, that they are getting these games at such a young age.”
On their experience of facing up to experienced internationals, Ferguson touched on Sheffield Wednesday’s quest to make a generational return to the top tier.

Hide Ad“They’ll get a lot out of that,” he said. “You’ve got to realise they’re playing against top players, aren’t they?
“Some of these guys are world class, James is world class, he’s done it at the World Cup on the biggest stage. So they’ll benefit a lot from that and I’m sure it’ll drive them on to want to play in the Premier League.
“Hopefully they’ll play in the Premier League with Sheffield Wednesday.”
