The 27-year-old has been linked with a whole host of Championship clubs since the Owls’ relegation to the third tier.
And after reports in the national media circulated on Thursday evening that Millwall were readying an effort to bring Windass to the Den, it is the Lions who have made the first move by making an official bid on Friday morning.

The club are currently attempting to clear themselves of cashflow issues that has meant several players have been left unpaid for up to three months.

The news could spark a bidding war among a host of second tier clubs.
The Star understands Birmingham City have made an enquiry as to Windass’ availability and that he is also of interest to Preston North End, QPR and Fulham. Other clubs have been linked with interest in Windass elsewhere.
Regardless of what happens with the striker, Wednesday look set for a huge squad overhaul, with 10 senior players leaving the club in the coming weeks and with Osaze Urhoghide and Julian Borner also looking set for the exit as it stands.
