It’s going to be a fascinating run-in to the title, with Barnsley more than hanging on in there to make a four-way battle at the top.
But what of the fights and scraps elsewhere? How makes up the play-off spots and who survives at the bottom?
With predicted placings, points totals and an indication of the chances of survival, our data expert friends at FiveThirtyEight have crunched the numbers to come up with the goods.
In what is the tightest table yet, here’s how they think things will fall come May 7.

5. 20th - MK Dons - 48 pts
It’s been a brutal season for MK Dons after the oh-so-close effort of last season, but they’re another side to have been battered by the exit of key figures. The analysts have them staying up but only just - with a 12% chance of relegation. Survive and it’ll be a case of a job well done for Jackson. | national world

6. 19th - Oxford United - 48 pts
Another vastly underachieving team, Oxford have traditionally been operating in the top half of the table previously but have struggled for form for too long and parted company with Karl Robinson, bringing in Liam Manning. He’s shored things up and returned four draws from four matches. You’d think he’ll keep them up and there’s a 86% chance he will do exactly that. Photo: Catherine Ivill

7. 18th - Port Vale - 50 pts
Lead by the goals and effort of Ellis Harrison (above), Port Vale have done well and have not flirted with the bottom four since jumping up a level. But there’ll be disappointment at their having dropped like a stone in recent months - at one stage they might have fancied a tilt at the top half. Photo: Morgan Harlow

8. 17th - Burton Albion - 52 pts
The Brewers seemed to be struggling early in the season but taking over from Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink, Dino Maamria has done a tremendous job to galvanise and take them towards a safety haul. There’s a 94% chance of beating the drop, the numbers suggest. | Getty Images
