When Jamal Lowe scored the opening goal for Swansea City last night, it was the 22nd time this season that the Owls have fallen behind in a game – and they’ve ended up losing every one of them.

The Owls were eventually beaten 2-0 by the Swans at Hillsborough as another heavy dent was put into their Championship survival bid, and it will have been even more disappointing given that the first goal probably came against the run of play.

Wednesday remain firmly locked in the bottom three as they fight for their lives in the second tier, but there’s one major statistic that offers a real insight into why they are where they are.

The Owls are now the only side in the top five tiers of English football – from the Premier League down to the National League – who are yet to pick up a point after falling behind.

No team in the Championship has scored less equalisers (3), and even in the games they’ve gone level in, they’ve ultimately gone on to lose.

Darren Moore wants to break that cycle.

When asked about the stat after the game, he told the media, “I don’t want to go behind… I never want to go behind from now until the end of the season - we want to say in front.

“But it’s a mindset, and a temperament. We need to change that cycle, and we have to break it.

“In terms of breaking it, it’s us that has to do that. Hopefully we don’t go behind again this season, but if we are going to do it then we have continue doing the right things.

“Players are getting in the right areas of the pitch, but it’s just about getting the final contact on it.

“Are we getting into the right areas of the pitch? Yes we are. Are we getting the right final contact? No we’re not. The more times we get in there, the more times we’ll get that contact.”
