The done deals and the gossip - League One transfers round-up as Sheffield Wednesday's rivals make moves
What is happening elsewhere in League One?
With just over one month until the transfer window shuts, the rumour mill is ramping up and deals are getting rubber-stamped.
Sheffield Wednesday have had a busy summer of their own with nine new arrivals, but there is still likely to be many more faces through the door between now and September 1.
It is all set for an exciting last month of the window and an interesting start to the season. Let’s take a look at the latest gossip and completed deals from around the division...
THE GOSSIP
LEICESTER CITY IN FOR £10M MIDFIELDER
The Foxes are the favourites to win the League One title, with Wednesday just behind them with the bookies. One player they are being linked with is Brighton midfielder, Tommy Watson, with a report claiming a loan deal has been agreed. The 20-year-old scored the winning goal in the 2025 Championship play-off final against Sheffield United at Wembley. He had already completed a £10m move to Brighton but stayed at Sunderland for the remainder of that season.
OWLS’ FIRST HOME OPPONENTS SET TO SWOOP FOR DEFENDER
Wednesday host Bradford City in their first home league game of the new season next month and The Bantams are reportedly closing in on the signing of a defender who was linked with The Owls earlier in the summer. Former Everton defender, Reece Welch, 22, who has been training with Bradford, has apparently done enough to earn himself a contract at Valley Parade. If the deal is finalised, Welch could line-up against Wednesday at Hillsborough on August 20.
PLYMOUTH PLAYING WAITING GAME AFTER SALE OF £4M MAN
The Pilgrims have got a tough task on their hands as they seek to replace top striker Lorent Tolaj, who they sold to Bristol City for £4m, just a year after buying him from Port Vale for £1.2m. Six new faces have arrived, but none of them are forwards. With a month to go until the transfer window shuts, fans are getting twitchy about the need to find a quality replacement. Manager Tom Cleverley has said they have had a bid rejected for one unnamed player and says they will have to be patient.
THE DONE DEALS
Elsewhere, there have been a number of eye-catching deals that have got over the line:
- Reading have sold striker Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan to Danish Superliga side AC Horsens for an undisclosed fee. The 22-year-old scored 10 goals in 47 appearances last season.
- Manchester City left-back, Christian McFarlane, 19, has penned a season-long loan at Leicester City.
- Stockport County may have done their best bit of business by tieing down highly-rated defender Ethan Pye, 23, to a new contract until 2029.
- Doncaster Rovers have signed winger Jordan Thomas, 25, from Cheltenham Town on a free transfer, replacing star man Luke Molyneux, 28, who was sold to League Two Salford City, after 40 goals and 37 in 209 appearances.
