May is the Robins’ joint top scorer in League One this season, and is a vital player for Wade Elliott’s outfit, so not having him available for the clash with Wednesday and beyond will come as a heavy blow.

Cheltenham did, however, manage without him on Tuesday night as they picked up an impressive 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers – with Ryan Broom getting the winner.

The forward is likely to be out until December, but the good news for them at this point is that he doesn’t need surgery.

Elliott said after his injury at the weekend, "The estimate is about eight to 10 weeks… It’s obviously not what anyone wants, but these things happen. Players get injuries and we’ll work around it the best we can.

"I don’t believe he’ll need an op. There is a little bit of swelling to get down before we can fully ascertain what’s underneath."

Wednesday have injury concerns of their own after Mallik Wilks missed the 2-1 defeat against Plymouth Argyle and Reece James was substituted off at half time with a knock of his own.

Lee Gregory returned to the matchday squad at Home Park, however, and Saturday could potentially see both George Byers and Mark McGuinness back in contention for a starting berth after their recent injury issues.
