So, with it being St Patrick’s Day we thought it was the perfect opportunity to take a look at some of the Irishmen who have starred for the Owls.
5. Graham Coughlan, 2005-2007
Dublin-born centre-back Coughlan was never called up to play for his country but was a popular figure at S6 for his battling qualities, scoring five goals in 51 appearances. He is now manager of League Two side, Mansfield Town. Photo: Ross Kinnaird
6. Derek Geary, 1997-2004
The Dublin-born full-back didn't make the step up to international football. Now retired, Geary clocked up 121 appearances for the Owls in a career which also saw him cross the city divide to play for United from 2004 to 2010 following a short stint at Stockport County. He is currently the Blades' under 18s coach. Photo: Laurence Griffiths
7. Owen Morrison, 1998-2003
The Derry-born winger began his senior career with Wednesday, making 55 league appearances and scoring eight goals at Hillsborough. He, like Geary, also starred for bitter rivals United but spent just five months at Bramall Lane. Photo: Michael Steele
8. James O'Connor, 2008-2011
The Dublin-born midfielder made 139 appearances for Wednesday after joining the club on a free transfer from Burnley. He was sacked as Orlando City SC at the end of the 2019 MLS season with the team having missed out on the play-offs after finishing 11th in the Eastern Conference. Photo: Shaun Botterill
