Danny Röhl wasn’t kidding when he suggested the Owls would get folk out of their seats this season. A 4-0 win over Plymouth Argyle on Sunday was enthralling partly for its dominant nature; within 10 minutes of their cup clash at Hull City a few days later we saw chaos. And everyone seemed to enjoy it.
Charlie McNeill was the hero, scoring twice in quick succession at the start of a frantic game. As debuts go, there won’t be many better in terms of his finishing and he was one of several to provide an eye-catching display.
Football at Sheffield Wednesday appears to be a big bit of fun. Watching it certainly is. Here are our player ratings from the MKM Stadium as the Owls slipped themselves into the second round.

9. Callum Paterson - 6
A rolling wrecking ball, drifting in and around the right channel, pressing with energy and from time to time providing an outlet. Didn't have a great deal of joy going forward but did his job tidily. | UGC / Steve Ellis

10. Charlie McNeill - 8
What a stunning start to his Wednesday career. Finished with real class from Smith's knockback just seconds in - could have had two within five minutes but for a desperate block. Didn't have to wait long for another chance and grabbed his second within 10 minutes. Let off not long after for a sloppy back-pass. Looked savvy, dropping in, and useful in tight areas. Is there any room left in this thing? Off before the hour for Cadamarteri. | SWFC / UGC

11. Michael Smith - 7
Stunning backheel to lay on the assist for the opener. Worked hard, took up some good positions and showed a turn of pace that got a few talking. He's not going to play every week in this set-up, but there's little doubt he offers something different. | UGC / Getty Images

12. Bailey Cadamarteri - 6
On for McNeill before the hour. Chased lost causes and put himself about. Perhaps looked a little bit rusty in some moments but that's to be expected. | Steve Ellis / UGC
