Dawson and Pickford played together at England youth level before Pickford sky-rocketed up the ladder into World Cup fame following some heroics with the Three Lions in Russia.

He told The Star, “The fact that Jordan Pickford’s England place is up for discussion, I really don’t get it…
“You look at what he’s done, what he’s done for his country, and the performances he’s put in for his country, I’d even go as far as saying a lot of it is an absolute lack of respect.
“From goalkeeper to goalkeeper, I’m thinking, ‘Hold on a minute, this man has contributed to an England World Cup semifinal appearance, won our first penalty shootout in God knows how long, and now he’s getting all this’.”

“It leaves you guys (the media) with nowhere to go, because when the pundits are coming out with all these ridiculous comments, you have to go and write about it. So I think the way to go is to get more goalkeepers into punditry.”
Dawson is locked in a tightly-fought battle with fellow Owls academy graduate, Joe Wildsmith, as they battle it out for Garry Monk’s number one spot at SWFC, though he does seem to be leading the race having kept two consecutive clean sheets against Cardiff City and Watford in Wednesday’s opening two Championship games in 2020/21.
