International talent to make Sheffield Wednesday return this week - Owls tight on future talks

Sheffield Wednesday have made it back from their European training camp.

One of the most talented players contracted to Sheffield Wednesday is scheduled to return to their Middlewood Road training base this week as the club continue their preparations for the fast-approaching season.

Yan Valery did not make the trip to Hungary and Austria last week having been clearance for extra time off. The Tunisia star played in the World Cup finals over in the US and is the subject of widespread speculation over his future, with many having expected him to move on this summer.

The 27-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with BSC Young Boys, moving after the UK transfer window had closed with the Swiss side offering to pay the entirety of his wages. He has another year remaining on his Wednesday deal.

Speaking in his wrap-up interview with media on their European trip, Pedersen said he expected to see Valery back at S6 this week and that discussions will be held on where all parties see his future. “He's coming back to training on Tuesday and I am looking forward to speaking with him,” Pedersen said.

Valery attracted interest from a range of leagues in January, including the Middle East. His aspirations in this window are not yet known, though it is believed nothing is set in stone as things stand. Wednesday are operating close to the limit agreed with the EFL on transfer and loan fee spending and it will be interesting to see whether Valery is kept on, with the Owls’ right an area that requires strengthening.

Chairman David Storch confirmed to supporters in a statement on Thursday that though fees received from player sales can be reinvested into the squad through wage payments, they do not raise the amount the club can spend in transfer and loan fees. Agreements with the EFL are in place for the next two years.

Pressed on whether Valery is the subject of talks between Wednesday and other clubs, Pedersen said simply: “Simon has an update on this situation.”
