Sheffield Wednesday have already been linked with moves for a number of players in recent days but what can we expect to be happening on the transfer front on Monday?

Our Owls writers Joe Crann and Alex Miller offer their views on where the squad needs strengthening and whether or not they will manage to do it.

Truth be told, I’m not expecting a particularly busy transfer deadline day for Sheffield Wednesday… If it was up to me I’d be prioritising a left back and a forward, but it very much remains to be seen if the club will get anything over the line.

Neil Thompson says that he’s hoping there can be some business done, but he – of course – wouldn’t be drawn into naming any names or suggesting exactly what they were chasing.

It appears, given the links to Harry Pickering and Tom Pearce, that Wednesday are very much prioritising a left back in their hunt for new players, but for me it is the search for goals that is the most pressing. Luckily against Preston North End, one goal was enough. But that definitely won’t always be the case.

In terms of outgoings, I wouldn’t be too surprised to see something come up for Alex Hunt, because I think a loan move would be good for him and I’m told that the club would be open to it. Although that being said, Wednesday need as many bodies on board given the heavy schedule that lies ahead.

I know there's been plenty about Liam Shaw, but I would think that even if he was to leave, it wouldn't be now.

I know that there is plenty going on behind the scenes as the Owls consider their options in terms of adding to their ranks over the next 24 hours or so, but given the COVID-19 situation and financial climate, they will be very careful to make sure that any moves they do make are smart ones.

No doubt there will be plenty of links in the next day or so, but sometimes – in the transfer window – there often is smoke without fire.

So here we go again. Another deadline day has arrived in which Sheffield Wednesday look set to try to push a deal or two through.

A left-back and a striker; they appear to be the two boxes to tick on what could well be a busy day full of names, from all over the place.

The latest, reported in the national media over the weekend, is Tom Pearce, a 22-year-old Everton youth product now plying his trade at cash-strapped Wigan Athletic. He fits the profile and it is no secret that the Latics need cash.

It's my understanding that as of Sunday teatime no firm moves have yet been made by Wednesday on that front. But having missed out on Blackburn-bound Crewe man Harry Pickering, it would make sense that that interest is there.

Cash up front was the issue that held up the Owls' signing of Josh Windass from Wigan last year and we know there are major cash flow issues at Hillsborough. We'll see what moves are made.

What else? Josh Murphy is a player Wednesday are keen on, and it could well be that his profile as a loanee is the sort of deal the club look to get done. As is the case with so many of those loan players though, there won't be any shortage of options - it'll be competitive.

Outgoings? You wonder if a club might try their luck with a cash offer for Liam Shaw, given his situation. Alex Hunt is a player that could do with a move out and as The Star revealed there is interest from League One. But the squad is small - will Wednesday put short-term survival goals ahead of long-term player development?
