State of play as Sheffield Wednesday enter final hours of transfer window
The last couple of hours of Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer window could prove to be lively, The Star understands.
The Owls have already had a busy month, with four inbound signing made to date and a handful of players - including club captain Barry Bannan - having left the club. The administration-hit club have sanctioned the sale of young forward Bailey Cadamarteri to Wrexham for a fee of £1m in their bid to raise funds to safeguard against any threat of the administration process having to be extended. It’s understood that that deal is yet to fully complete, though it is expected to do so.
As things stand there is no clear sense that further Wednesday players are bound heading for the exit door, though the situation at S6 leaves them vulnerable to fair price offers should they arrive. As reported elsewhere, it’s understood there has been late Championship interest for midfielder Svante Ingelsson but a rapid advancement of a deal is not expected as things stand. Interest from Turkey in Yan Valery could extend into next week.

Wednesday are looking to add to their squad, with things believed to be moving fast on a loan deal to bring in young attacker Joel Ndala from Manchester City. Ndala has spent the early stages of the season on loan with Hull City but it is thought the Premier League giants are keen to expose the 19-year-old to more minutes at Championship level. At current, it’s understood there is a confidence that signing will complete.
Another addition could be that of Zimbabwe midfielder Marvelous Nakamba. The former Aston Villa man is out of favour at Luton Town and has been in talks over the cancellation of his deal ahead of the window to facilitate his move to Hillsborough.
The Star understands that the arrangement is effectively on hold until Cadamarteri’s exit is signed and sealed, with Nakamba to step into the youngster’s squad place. Should all go to plan and his Hatters contract be terminated ahead of time, the signing of the 32-year-old could in theory be completed after the window closes.
As always, things can move fast in the final hours of a transfer window and given Wednesday’s situation, changes could come around fast. This is a live one. The window closes at 7pm.
