Sheffield Wednesday transfer news: Owls face fresh competition for Premier League stopper, Everton could miss out on £30m star

Sheffield Wednesday's battle against relegation looks set to go down to the wire, with their fate still yet to be decided with just two games of the season left to play.

The Owls, despite a spirited performance, were beaten 3-1 by Neil Warnock' s Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium last weekend, but a fifth straight loss for Derby County means Wednesday could still have hope of catching them in a final day showdown - if they beat Nottingham Forest next weekend and the Rams slip up against Swansea City.

Speaking after last Saturday's clash, Boro boss Neil Warnock - a lifelong Sheffield United fan - gave his verdict on the Owls' plight, and claimed: "For the Sheffield clubs to both get relegated, it’d be bloody diabolical because it means so much to people… But you don’t get relegated from two games do you? It’s about how many games they’ve lost.

“I do feel sorry for the fans though, because it’s not all about games is it? There’s the points deduction as well. I’m glad it’s not decided today - it’d be great if they could beat Forest and take it to the last day of the season wouldn’t it?”

He continued: “I think they’ve got to beat Forest - and they’re capable of beating anybody at home. It’s not an easy place, and the pitch isn’t very good. If they beat Forest then Derby are under immense pressure.

“There’s always something turns up at the end of the season. When you look at that last fixture, it couldn’t have been planned any better.”
