Ethan Horvath exit confirmed as Sheffield Wednesday loan agreement ends

Ethan Horvath will now return to Cardiff City following the end of his loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen has confirmed goalkeeper Ethan Horvath has played his last game for the club.

The shot-stopper, 30, joined the Owls on a temporary loan deal from League One club Cardiff City back in August after first-choice goalkeeper Pierce Charles was ruled out for several months with a shoulder injury.

However, the terms of the loan meant it would only run until January, and Pedersen has confirmed the agreement has now reached its conclusion, meaning the former Nottingham Forest and Luton Town man will return to Cardiff.

Horvath stepped up when the Owls were in desperate need of help and he made 16 appearances in league and cup, keeping two clean sheets. He also played a starring role in Wednesday’s penalty shootout triumph over Leeds United in the Carabao Cup at Hillsborough in August, saving two penalties.

“It was his last game today so he will leave us tomorrow,” Pedersen told The Star. “Ethan came as a third goalkeeper from League One, and I think he did much better than what we could expect.

Pedersen shares Horvath verdict as loan ends

“We have been happy for all that he has done for our club, and he has been a fantastic person. He has been a good goalkeeper for us.

“So we have a lot to thank him for, to come in when Pierce got his injury.”

Charles returned from injury last month and has started each of the Owls’ last six matches (seven including the abandoned clash vs Blackburn Rovers), reclaiming his position as the club’s No.1.

Logan Stretch, who was a familiar fixture in the matchday squad prior to Charles’ return, is expected to become the Northern Ireland international’s deputy and be on the bench for the trip to QPR on Sunday.
