Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen confirms Liam Cooper injury blow after Preston defeat

Liam Cooper was forced off in the first half of Sheffield Wednesday’s 3-0 defeat to Preston North End.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen has said Liam Cooper’s groin injury is “not good” after he hobbled off in New Year’s Day’s 3-0 defeat to Preston North End.

The centre-back, who was restored to the starting XI at Deepdale, replacing youngster Cole MCGhee, was forced off five minutes before half-time.

Hobbling off the pitch directly in front of Pedersen’s technical area, it instantly became clear the former Leeds United man would not be able to continue, and he was replaced by Sean Fusire.

Already down to the bare-bones because of a mounting injury crisis, Pedersen has expressed fears about the severity of Cooper’s groin problem, but he will not know the exact extent of it until a scan has taken place.

Pedersen issues concerning Cooper update

”His groin is not good,” Pedersen told The Star. “He's a good example, he has played really, really well for us.

“He means a lot for us, he's a good leader, he's a good defender, but his left foot has also been really good in the build-up for us.

“But he has also played more than he should play in relation to his fitness when he came to the club. Let's see how long he's out, but it's not good.

“It's too early to say [how long he’ll be out for], he'll get a scan tomorrow and then we'll know more.”
