'We need help' - Henrik Pedersen makes EFL admission amid Sheffield Wednesday injury crisis
Sheffield Wednesday’s mounting injury crisis means they are crying out for some help from the EFL.
Henrik Pedersen has confirmed Sheffield Wednesday are knocking on the English Football League’s (EFL) door “every day” for help amid their mounting injury crisis.
Goalkeeper Pierce Charles became the Owls’ latest injury concern after he was forced off during Saturday’s 2-0 FA Cup third round defeat to Brentford because of a shoulder injury.
After making a collection of fine saves, the Northern Ireland international, who was scheduled to undergo a scan on Sunday, was forced off with 60 minutes on the clock after requiring treatment from the Wednesday medical staff on the pitch. He was replaced by debutant Logan Stretch.
Having lost Dominic Iorfa to a groin issue ahead of the visit of the Bees, Wednesday’s injury crisis is rapidly spiralling out of control, meaning Pedersen now has very, very few senior players left available for selection.
However, Wednesday, as things currently stand, are permitted to bring just two loan signings in during this month’s transfer window - a figure which, quite clearly, is not enough.
In desperate need of more support, Pedersen has admitted Wednesday have been making frequent contact with the EFL to try and get some extra help.
Pedersen issues rallying cry for help
”Yes, we try to knock every day,” Pedersen confirmed to The Star. “Of course, we put pressure for what we can.
“We need help, and we try to do all that we can to get help as quick as possible. Right now it's two players, and this is what we are working from, so let's see.”

Without a win since September and sitting rock-bottom of the Championship, many will argue Wednesday are desperate for some new signings to give them an increased chance of picking up some wins. However, the need for some support is arguably greater to try and stop the risk of more injuries to existing members of the squad coming to fruition.
”It is for the results, but it is also for the health,” added the Owls boss, addressing why he is so desperate for new signings. “When you have three or four senior players, then, of course, it's tough.
“But again, we try to do the best we can with things we can control and with the environment we have. This is where we are using our energy.”
