Henrik Pedersen gives Pierce Charles update as Sheffield Wednesday injury crisis deepens
Pierce Charles was forced off in Saturday’s FA Cup defeat to Brentford with a shoulder injury.
Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen has confirmed he faces an anxious wait to discover the extent of Pierce Charles’ shoulder injury after he was forced off in Saturday’s 2-0 FA Cup defeat to Brentford at Hillsborough.
The goalkeeper was forced off with 60 minutes on the clock after going down after making a save and required medical treatment from the Wednesday physios.
Charles, who had made a catalogue of outstanding saves prior to being replaced by debutant Logan Stretch, cut a devastated figure as he walked off the pitch, burying his head in his hands, suggesting he knew it was a serious issue.
The Northern Ireland international was sidelined for just over three months earlier this season because of a shoulder injury that required surgery, but Pedersen confirmed it was the other shoulder that forced him off against the Bees.
Pedersen shares Charles concern
“He was very sad and is still very sad,” Pedersen told The Star. “We don't know what it is, it's the opposite shoulder than before, so I think he will have a scan tomorrow (Sunday) and then we will see what it is.
“It's awful, and it's awful for him. It's not good.”

Charles was replaced between the sticks by Stretch, who was almost immediately tasked with trying to keep out a penalty. Despite having no chance of keeping out Jensen’s fierce effort, he made a couple of impressive saves in the closing stages.
Offering his assessment of Stretch’s cameo, Pedersen added: “He did really well, so big respect for the young man who came in in this situation, with this pressure we had on the goal.
“Well done to him.”
