Championship club hint at revisiting interest in Sheffield Wednesday star after failed transfer effort
Portsmouth boss John Mousinho has suggested the club will monitor Svante Ingelsson’s situation after an effort to sign him from Sheffield Wednesday failed in the January transfer window.
The powerful Swede has become something of a fan favourite at Hillsborough for his huge effort in a brutal campaign, in doing so earning a status as a leading contender for the club’s player of the year award. Wednesday’s financial position decreed it necessary to sell players in the January window, leading Pompey and Millwall to launch bids for Ingelsson that ultimately came to nothing.
The 27-year-old midfielder has a contract that ends next summer but an extension clause in the deal means the club can run his time at S6 to 2027. Personal circumstances ultimately informed the decision not to sell Ingelsson, who was keen to stay in South Yorkshire, but the club’s administrators were never likely to sell him at the £300k level both clubs came in at.

Speaking about targets his club missed out on in January, Mousinho suggested tabs would be kept on the landscape of possible deals heading into future windows.
“We will see what the situation is with those players,” he told our sister paper The News. “It’s like Gustavo (Caballero). We missed out on Gustavo in the summer, so we kept an eye on that because we obviously liked the player. We said we’ll see how it pans out over the next three or four months.
”We will keep an eye on their situations. It happens and that’s absolutely fine (deals aren’t completed), but you never know what could happen at the end back end of the season.
“We’ll always monitor it and keep an eye on things. Whatever way it goes, we’ve done a lot of work on a lot of these players - so we will keep an eye on their situations.”
