Sheffield Wednesday target completes deadline day move to Championship rivals

A League One defender heavily linked with Sheffield Wednesday has completed his move to a Championship rival.

Harry Pickering, now formerly of Crewe Alexandra, has signed for Blackburn Rovers for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £650,000 plus add-ons.

It became clear this week that it was the Lancashire side that had moved into pole position when it came to the Pickering transfer tale. It had been reported that Wednesday had made an offer for the 22-year-old earlier in the window.

Last week Owls caretaker boss Neil Thompson confirmed that Pickering was a name that had been discussed in the club’s recruitment circles.

“The recruitment department look at a lot of players and the ones that are impressing in the lower leagues,” he said. “They have a network of scouts who have had a look and are watching a lot of videos.

“That name has popped up and there will be one or two others as well.”
