'A shame' - Sky Sports pundit shares verdict on Simon Jordan's Sheffield Wednesday interest

Simon Jordan revealed he was recently part of a consortium that expressed interest in buying Sheffield Wednesday.

Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has said it is “a shame” that Simon Jordan is no longer pursuing a deal to buy Sheffield Wednesday.

Jordan, last month, publicly revealed during one of his stints on national radio station talkSPORT that he had been part of a consortium that had contacted administrators to offer proof of £50million to try and advance to the next stage of the process to try and buy the club.

Jordan, who has regularly addressed Wednesday’s potential in recent years, was joined within the consortium by friend and insurance entrepreneur Ryan Howsam. He is from Sheffield and told The Star last week he thought it would be a “really good opportunity” to explore the possibility of buying the club.

However, the Howsam-Jordan bid didn’t materialise into a formal offer after it became clear the cost to purchase the Owls would surpass the figure they had in mind. The club needs to be sold for £30m to avoid the possibility of being handed a 15-point deduction next season.

The takeover process at Hillsborough is still ongoing, and the level of interest that has been declared in buying the club meant administrators were unable to name a preferred bidder by the original target date of December 5.

With Jordan now out of the running, Sky Sports pundit Goodman, who frequently commentates on Championship fixtures for the broadcaster, has admitted he would be “a little bit disappointed” if he was a Wednesday supporter, suggesting Jordan has failed to enough in the potential of the club.

Goodman comments on Jordan’s interest in Wednesday

“I’m kind of glad he hasn’t gone back into football because I enjoy listening to him on the radio, Simon Jordan,” Goodman told Football League World.

“But joking aside, he talks a lot of sense, he’s got that football ownership background, he’s well connected and I’d be a little bit disappointed if I was a Sheffield Wednesday fan that he hasn’t seen enough in the potential of the football club to go beyond and into the next phase and actually end up buying it.

“Obviously, it’s a club of huge potential, but behind the scenes there’s something that’s stopped Simon Jordan, and that’s a shame, really. Maybe another opportunity at another club will come to fruition.

“But, no, I think he’d make a good owner if he were to get back involved.”
