From protest to party - a very different Sheffield Wednesday walk through Hillsborough Park
Alex Miller takes a walk through Hillsborough Park, where he had witnessed protests against then Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri on a day of celebration for Owls fans
Alex Miller saw all of the protests against previous Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri first hand. Many of them took place at Hillsborough Park where marches to the ground grew in number as frustration increased over Chansiri.
Today, on a day when a new ownership will officially be announced, Alex took a walk through the park on his way to Hillsborough and the amosphere today is very different.
He said: “This was the scene not long ago, it feels like 100 years ago, but where those protests started, I think it was just over a year, the most significant one, and then subsequently marching a coffin through Hillsborough Park as fears over the future of the football club Sheffield Wednesday, the proud institution that it is, were growing and it's been a long long road since then.
“It's fair to say at the time looking back it was bubbling, it was growing in support to get Dejphon Chansiri out of the club and take Wednesday to a better health.
“There's been some bumps in the road along the way and look, the fact of the matter is, we don't know what Arise and Sheffield Wednesday look like yet. Certainly been a good start on their part, that remains to be seen, don't worry about that today, I've put it far more eloquently in a tweet, I'm a better writer than I am a talker, but today is all about celebrating a battle won, Sheffield Wednesday in new hands.”
