Fresh Sheffield Wednesday tactical option revealed after signing

Sheffield Wednesday brought Ali Al-Hamadi to the club this week.

Sheffield Wednesday’s latest transfer window addition will open up fresh tactical options to Henrik Pedersen and his coaching staff as the Owls look to kick-on in their transition to League One football.

The Owls face Bromley at Hillsborough on Saturday in a clash that will bring together sides that were two divisions apart this time last year. They’ll do so with the option of bringing in new signing Ali Al-Hamadi, who joined this week on season-loan terms from Ipswich Town.

The Iraq international spoke with enthusiasm about the need to prove a point after a difficult couple of years through injury and circumstance. Match sharpness dependent, Al-Hamadi will provide a fresh profile of striker for the Dane to choose from ahead of a clash that will see Wednesday faced with a different challenge - as will be the case across the course of a long League One season.

Owls boss Henrik Pedersen said on the signing: “We are really really happy for Ali, and I think he's a he's a strong profile. He's a he's a strong pressing player. He can run deep. He's strong in the box. So, yeah, I think he can be a good, good asset together with the other strikers for our team.

“I think he's a clear number nine,” Pedersen continued. “Mason is also a nine, but he can also play 10. Jamal can play nine. He can play 10. He can also play in both side in the 10 position, the outside 10 position. So I think it's it's an option that is not it doesn't only need to be one player and two on the events. I also think they can they can play together and and I'm sure we'll also see this in the future.”

The signing of a player in Al-Hamadi’s image is intended to deliver a new tactical offering to S6 in that Pedersen will have the option to play two strikers alongside one another moving forward. Mason Burstow has joined Jamal Lowe in battling for minutes on the lone frontline of the Owls’ line-up this season and it is felt that a more physical option in Al-Hamadi could bring out an ability to provide a forward pairing.

“I think it's just an extra addition that we can that we have the option also to play with two strikers that we that we have the option to to use them in different ways,” Pedersen said. “So I think it's it's it's not mean we need to to change, but it's mean that we can put make additional things tactically who can help us to be more effective.”
