But one player who has made clear his determination to stay at the club is wide man Kadeem Harris, who into the final year of his contract looks set to make his 50th appearance for the Owls against Watford this weekend.

The lightning-quick 27-year-old, who arrived at Hillsborough from Cardiff on a free transfer last summer, has made an immediate impact and is seen as one of Garry Monk’s key men.

“It is a very important 12 months for me but, I think as a professional footballer, every season is vitally important,” he said.

“You can't ever take your foot off the pedal. It is another important 12 months for me but I am relishing the challenge.”

Asked whether his heart is set on an extended stay at Wednesday, Harris said: “I love the club so I definitely would like to stay.

“It is a massive club and hopefully we can have a good season and we can perform well.”

Speaking about his targets for the season, which looks set to take place as a wing-back in Garry Monk’s favoured 3-5-2 system, the aim is clear: “I want more goals and assists.

“It is a tough one because it is not as easy as it sounds.

“There were times post lockdown where I felt I performed really well but that was overshadowed with us not getting the wins or scoring the goals that I should have done.

“Performances sometimes don't get credit when you don't win so I will definitely be working on getting more assists and goals this season.”
