Sheffield Wednesday promotion hero looking for club in the north this summer

Jack Hunt won promotion with The Owls in 2023

Owls promotion hero Jack Hunt says he would like to sign for a club up north this summer.

The right-back, 35, who had two spells at Sheffield Wednesday, winning promotion from League One three years ago, spent some weeks training at Middlewood Road earlier this season before signing for Stockport County and then Wigan Athletic.

The defender, who made 180 appearances for Wednesday in total, still wants to keep playing and is available on a free transfer.

He told The Star: “I'm going to see what the summer brings. I still feel really good. I have given a lot to football and my family has sacrificed a lot so I want to be around them at this moment in time, but you are a long time retired also. I will be looking for a club, hopefully, back up north.”

After his first stint at Wednesday, his career took him to Bristol City for three years. And then after departing The Owls again in 2023, he moved on to Bristol Rovers. With more than 500 career appearances, he has a lot of knowledge to pass on. Coaching could be an option, but he is not ruling anything out yet.

“I'm not sure to be honest, at the moment,” he said when asked about life after football. “I love football. I have done the first part of my coaching course. That's just in case I want to go down that avenue. So I think over the next 12 months, I'll really kind of put something in place and decide what I want to do, whether it's in football or not.”
