Sheffield Wednesday's final day opponents West Brom set to make managerial appointment
Wednesday’s final day opposition were in relegation trouble until James Morrison took over
The Owls’ last day opponents, West Brom, are to set appoint James Morrison as manager on a permanent deal, according to reports.
The 39-year-old has been in interim charge, losing just one of 14 games, a run which has guided them to safety in the Championship. The Baggies, who were docked two points for breaching financial fair play rules last week, secured their status after a goalless draw against Ipswich Town last weekend.
West Brom were in deep in trouble of relegation to League One after the sackings of Ryan Mason in January, and then his replacement, Eric Ramsay, in February after just nine games in charge. But Morrison, who made more than 300 appearances in 12 years as a player at the club, has come in and performed impressively and is set to earn the gig on a permanent contract, reports claim.
It remains to be seen whether the announcement comes before The Baggies arrive at Hillsborough on Saturday for the 12.30pm kick-off on the back of a 10-game unbeaten perios which includes five successive clean sheets.
The much-anticipated match, which could see Arise Capital Partners unveiled as the new owners of Wednesday, is a sell-out, with 2,400 in the away end. Owls fans have been encouraged to ‘arrive early’ for what ‘promises to be a memorable day.’
Wednesday have not won at home in the league for a year and have only won one in total all season so they will be desperate to sign off the season with something to cheer and to finally chalk off the minus points. But they will be without their star man of the campaign, Svante Ingelsson, after the midfielder has been ruled out with a knee injury, with manager Henrik Pedersen saying he will be back fit for pre-season.
