Sheffield Wednesday set transfer deadline day target as Henrik Pedersen eyes incomings
Sheffield Wednesday are permitted to bring in two more signings before the transfer window closes at 7pm on Monday night.
Sheffield Wednesday hope to bring in two new signings ahead of the winter transfer window closing on Monday evening.
The mid-season window will close at 7pm and the Owls, as things stand, are permitted to fill two slots that have become available. Wednesday have made three additions so far in this window, bringing in Murphy Cooper, Jaden Heskey and Jerry Yates, each of whom have arrived on loan.
Wednesday, who are continuing to operate under a fee restriction ban, were given permission by the English Football League [EFL] several weeks ago to bring in two loan signings, but one of those slots had to be used to sign a replacement goalkeeper after losing Pierce Charles to a shoulder injury.
As January unfolded, Wednesday lost Harry Amass, who returned to Manchester United following a successful loan spell at Hillsborough, Barry Bannan departed, joining Millwall, and Nathan Redmond left the club following the expiry of his short-term contract.
Permitted to replace those three players, Wednesday have already filled the slot vacated by Bannan, signing Yates on loan from Luton Town on Friday, but they are yet to fill the voids that have been vacated by Amass and Redmond.
Confirming signing a left wing-back is a priority, Owls manager Henrik Pedersen wants to try and fill both slots ahead of the shutters coming down on the window.
Pedersen outlines Wednesday’s transfer hopes
Outlining exactly where Wednesday stand in their quest to add to their squad for the remainder of the season, Pedersen told The Star: "The situation is that we have three slots. One for Barry, one for Harry and one for Nathan.
"We have Jerry for Barry, and now we still have two slots where we try to find one for the left side. So we have one who can support Reece on the left side.

"And then a last position. This is where we are right now. I hope tomorrow (Sunday) that maybe we can make another step, but things are going so quick from hour to hour.
"We are close, but then we were not close because then another club came with this or this or this. We are working hard to get two more players in."
As well as hoping to bring players in, Wednesday are also hoping to avoid any further exits. Their chances of keeping hold of Svante Ingelsson are understood to have improved, but interest does remain in the Swede.
Yan Valery and Bailey Cadamarteri are continuing to attract attention. The latter has been the subject of offers from the likes of Blackburn Rovers, Millwall and Hibernian in the last few weeks, and interest is understood to remain rife in the striker.
