David Storch has already outlined his Sheffield Wednesday plans after takeover twist

The Sheffield Wednesday takeover race is once again in a period of uncertainty following the collapse of the James Bord-led consortium’s bid.

Businessman David Storch has already reiterated the importance of implementing a professional off-field structure at Hillsborough after the opportunity to buy Sheffield Wednesday reopened.

After being granted ‘preferred bidder’ status by administrators Begbies Traynor on Christmas Eve, the James Bord-led consortium pulled the plug on their attempts to complete a takeover of the Owls on Wednesday.

Consortium member Alsharif Faisal Bin Jamil claimed that their own due diligence within the process meant that their present valuation of the club was significantly lower than the number they bid at. Administrators later confirmed the consortium’s offer was worth £47.8million.

With the Bord-led takeover bid having now collapsed, it remains to be seen who will win the race to buy the crisis-hit Owls, who suffered an 11th successive Championship defeat at the hands of Norwich City on Wednesday evening.

The Star understands former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has retained interest in the club and that representatives of his will meet with administrators today (Thursday). US businessman Storch is also understood to still be interested in purchasing the club.

The Storch family, who had originally teamed up with John McEvoy, were keen on winning the takeover race prior to the Bord-led consortium being given ‘preferred bidder’ status back in December.

Storch has already opened up on Owls plans and 15-point penalty risk

Prior to that development in this process, Storch, speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, opened up on why he was keen to buy the Owls and outlined what his plans for the club involved with the former CEO of AAR, an aviation services company, highlighting the importance of getting the off-field structure right.

Speaking in December, Storch said: “We have a desire to do things right, that means setting the tone at the top. Having excellence in everything we do and a quality product — at the stadium, the training ground and academy.

"We'll bring in the right CEO. We want to make sure we bring in the right sporting director."

A proper off-field structure is something Wednesday have desperately lacked for a number of years, meaning that is just one of several areas of the club that needs improving.

The current situation, however, means Wednesday are increasingly likely to be slapped with a 15-point deduction at the start of next season. Wednesday need to satisfy the EFL’s 25p rule to avoid being hit with that sanction - a scenario which, as of now, feels unlikely to happen.

Storch, at the time, insisted he would not be prepared to accept the punishment, explaining: "We've put in an offer. We feel that it's a fair offer and satisfies our interpretation of the rules and the laws of the land.

"We will not move forward with a 15-point deduction. The offer that we've put in has a requirement that stipulates that we will not accept the 15-point reduction.”
