'A pleasure' - Sheffield Wednesday duo send messages to Henrik Pedersen after Owls exit
Henrik Pedersen was sacked by Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday following just over a year in charge.
Sheffield Wednesday duo Liam Palmer and Barry Bannan took to social media on Sunday evening to wish Henrik Pedersen well following his departure from Hillsborough.
The Owls confirmed on Sunday afternoon that Pedersen had been relieved of his duties following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Doncaster Rovers at the Club Doncaster Sports Village. It marked their second successive defeat, following a 2-0 loss to Notts County four days earlier.
Although Wednesday are currently eighth and just two points off the play-off places, their recent performances have been underwhelming, with little sign of progress. Pedersen was subjected to chants of ‘We want Henrik out’ from some supporters during each of the last two games.
Pedersen spent just over three years at Hillsborough, initially serving as Danny Röhl’s assistant before stepping up to the top job in July last year. He led the club through the darkest and most challenging period in its history, leading by example as a figurehead.

Thanking Pedersen for his efforts, Wednesday captain Palmer posted on social media: “Never easy to find the right words. Thank you for leading us through one of the most difficult times in the clubs recent history.
“A near impossible task at times last season. A top guy who always had the players and his staffs best interests at heart. I would like to wish you and your family all the best for the future.”
Bannan, who returned to Hillsborough during the summer to be reunited with Pedersen, said: “Henrik, [it] was a pleasure working with you. Not only my manager but a friend for life.
“You’re a special person and what you [have] done for this club will never be forgot. You’re gonna be missed. All the best to you in the future, and all the best to your family.”
