'They have a strategy' - Sheffield Wednesday boss lifts the lid on contract 'adjustment'

Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen has been given an improved deal by the club.

Manager Henrik Pedersen has confirmed that an ‘adjustment’ has been made to his Sheffield Wednesday contract.

It was first reported by The Wednesday Word on Thursday that Pedersen had been given an improved deal by ownership group Arise Capital Partners, correcting some of the contractual wrongs left by former Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri.

Pedersen, who has overseen five wins in seven matches in all competitions so far this season, remains under contract at Hillsborough until 2028, meaning his deal has not been extended.

Addressing the news for the first time, the Owls boss, speaking to the media at Middlewood Road on Friday afternoon ahead of Saturday’s clash with Wigan Athletic at Hillsborough, said: “Yes, we have made a new adjustment to the contract, so everything is fine. Simon [Wilson] and I, we are speaking every day, and we are speaking about where we want to go with Sheffield Wednesday.

“We have been really aligned from the first moment, and I really appreciate the relationship we have together and how we work together. I’m happy with this adjustment.”

Pedersen is not the only Wednesday employee to have seen an adjustment made to their contract by Arise, highlighting the ownership group’s ambition to improve standards across the board.

“I think we have got some new owners who are tough, tough business people and, at the same time, they have their hearts in the right place,” the Owls boss continued.

“They try to treat people with a big, big respect, and I really appreciate what they are doing for our club. They have a strategy for how they want to handle [the club], and I think they have a dialogue with more people.

“I know they respect everyone, and they want to do all that they can. That’s the best thing for the club.”

Wednesday have enjoyed a strong start to the season, winning four of their first five League One matches. As a result, they head into Saturday’s clash with Wigan Athletic at the top of the table. Although everyone at the club is delighted with the start to the campaign, Pedersen says they are all hungry for more.

He added: “We are all happy with the beginning, but we also all have so much hunger for so much more. We all know that we are only at the beginning of this process.

“We have so much to do in the next week, month and beyond to get to where we want to go. We are satisfied with a good beginning, but we all want much, much more.”
