'Thank you' - Nathaniel Chalobah announces Sheffield Wednesday exit ahead of summer rebuild
Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah has taken to social media to confirm he is leaving the club.
Midfield enforcer Nathaniel Chalobah has confirmed he is leaving Sheffield Wednesday upon the expiry of his contract this summer.
The former Chelsea man, who joined Wednesday on a free transfer in July 2024, announced the news on his Instagram page on Monday evening.
Chalobah, who was on the scoresheet in Wednesday’s 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion at Hillsborough on Saturday, was restricted to just 31 appearances during his Owls career because of a mixture of injury issues.
Scoring two goals during his time with the Owls, including a famous opener against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on the opening day of this season, the midfielder came into form at the end of this campaign, starting five of the Owls’ last six matches. He had an undisputed impact in helping Wednesday avoid defeat in four of their last six games.
However, the 31-year-old has confirmed he is leaving Hillsborough, meaning he will play no part in the club’s new dawn under Arise Capital Partners LLC.
Posting on Instagram, Chalobah said: "As my time @swfcofficial comes to an end, I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone associated with the club. To all the people that came out every single week home and away to support the boys just shows the passion and love you all have for the club.
“To my guys in the changing room. Dark times from the start but we kept each other going through crazy times, character, resilience, fight but most of all empathy through circumstances we hopefully never have to go through again.
“I just wished I was there more to go through it with you all. To the staff that were able to keep everyone level event though times were tough for you too, thank you for your care.
"From my family and I (especially my kids who are now die hard Wednesday fans) THANK YOU."
